The service was quick. We were seated almost instantly, the place was jam packed which is good to see because it gave me the impression that this place must be delicious. It was a bit confusing to find out that although they seated us, they don't take our orders while we are seated. I had to walk back to the front and wait in line again to order, luckily I had my mom with me to leave my three children or else I think I would've been upset. But besides that, the staff and service were quick and amazing. I definitely recommend eating here!
Door Dash is best when ordering ahead for pick up (: Even as take out - and as expected - food was delish.
First time customer at Mamma Roma Italian restaurant. Ordered an Italian hoagie with oil and vinegar and a large New York style cheese pizza for carry out. When I got home the Italian hoagie had mayonnaise instead of vinegar and oil. Communication breakdown between myself and the cashier. Next time I will stress "no mayo." Great sandwich anyway. Thoroughly enjoyed the roll, fresh onions-lettuce-tomatoes and deli meat. Very flavorful. The New York style pizza was huge. I'm from Philadelphia and the Mamma Roma pizza reminded me of the pizzas from NYC and Philly. Sauce, cheese and dough are mouth watering. Mamma Roma is quite a ways from my house but they just got another loyal customer. Cannot wait to have a sit down dinner there in the future.
Good service, pricing, selection, little cocktail bar etc. It's a little different ordering your food before you are seated but you can sit down look over the menu then place your order up front. My advice DO NOT GET THE LOBSTER RAVIOLI. My wife and I love lobster ravioli and get it everywhere we go, but here it was not good at all. The other dishes I've had have been pretty good, but again say no to the LOBSTER RAVIOLI.
We were in the Odenton area a week after our first visit and stopped for takeout. One rule-order all different items so we try more of the abundant Menu options. Ordered online and overall ok with one of the items showing unavailable but was when we asked about it during pickup. I think I was dialing the wrong number as it was constantly busy although they didn't seem busy on Tuesday around 3:30. We ordered a Sicilian Pie-Mama's Special. Excellent with an airy, almost crispy trust and just the right portions of each topping. Pasta Carbonara (rich, creamy and reminded us of what we had in Rome). Shrimp Creamy Pesto (was showing unavailable online) was decadent and delicious. Loved the Fettuccini Mediterraneo with a light cream sauce and seafood. Our Italian Cold Cut and Caprese sandwiches were enjoyed also. I was able to use my Yelp check-in offer and service was excellent. We just need a Momma Roma closer to home! Already have listed what we will order next visit (I.e Seafood Extravaganza)
The food here is flavorful and popular using the heavy-handed approach to cooking. They use strong flavors and heavy sauces to get the attention of people's taste buds and fill their bellies. It works! Look at all the rave reviews! However, the wait time for ordering dine-in food is unacceptable! I've included a description of the problem and some tips to help. More on that later. The dishes my wife and I tried had no subtle or delicate flavors. Just obvious aromas and flavors that made them satisfying. I can appreciate their unnuanced approach to Italian food. If you've been in business long enough, you know that subtlety isn't noticed by most customers. Here's a description of the 4 dishes we tried. 1) Calamari Fritti It had breaded calamari tentacles and rings with a gravy boat of marinara sauce and a wedge of lemon. The breading was a thick batter coating that was on the heavier side. The calamari was tender and fresh with a clean aroma. There was no fishy smell. A lighter breading would be nice. Otherwise, the taste and texture were very good, but I've had better. The marinara sauce had a strong acidic tomato flavor. It tasted and looked like spaghetti sauce mixed with a little cocktail sauce. It tasted okay, but it was pretty heavy for a marinara sauce. 2) NY Style Combo Pizza This was a carryout order. We bought a medium-size pizza with onion, mushrooms, pepperoni, bacon, and roasted red peppers. It normally comes with three toppings, but we paid for 2 more. The pizza crust was moist and slightly chewy with a typical plain taste. The edge (cornicione) got very hard, and microwaving didn't soften it much. The roasted red peppers had a flavor that was outstanding, and the cheese was a blend that was savory. The sauce was strong in acidic tomato flavor. A little more sugar would help. The rest of the ingredients were typical. This was a good tasting pizza. To be outstanding, it needs a tasty crust and a flavorful pizza seasoning that's not too heavy on the herbs. 3) Seafood Extravaganza This dish is a version of luiguine ai fruitti di mare (luiguine with fruit of the sea). It had mussels, clams, shrimp, scallops, calamari, and crabmeat sautéed in garlic, olive oil, and cherry tomato sauce served over linguini. It came with 2 slices of garlic bread. The seafood was fresh. We kept finding small bits of mussel and clam shells. Better washing is needed. Everything was cooked well. The sauce was rather thick for this type of dish. More white wine would help. It had a strong tomato flavor with moderate pepperiness along with a good balance of herbs, garlic, onion, and salt. This sauce paired well with the seafood. I recommend this dish. Just watch out for bits of shell. The garlic bread had strong flavors of butter and garlic. They were toasted well, but the edges were rather hard. They do NOT give out complimentary bread. It comes with certain entrees. Otherwise, you pay for it. 4) Shrimp Montini Fresh shrimp sautéed in garlic and extra virgin olive oil, then tossed with arugula and fresh crabmeat in a cognac cream sauce, and served over rigatoni. It came with 2 slices of garlic bread. We changed the rigatoni to linguine. Their sauce is thick, so it doesn't get inside rigatoni well. The sauce lacked richness and cognac flavor. It was creamy and well-rounded with herbs and seasoning. It's a flavorful sauce that needs more cognac or one that has a standout flavor and heavy cream or butter added for richness. This fell short of what a cognac cream sauce should be. The medium size shrimp were tender with a mild garlic flavor. It was delicious! The tails were left on the shrimp. Tails should be taken off unless there is a purpose, like in shrimp cocktail. My wife and I enjoyed this dish despite the shortcomings. It could be better. The service needs improvement! All food orders are taken at one cash register. It's the same for drinks and dessert at the bar. On a busy day, the line is long and slow. I stood 18 minutes in line for food and 20 minutes at the bar. They need to change to a faster ordering system like a tablet menu at the table or a QR code ordering service like Square or Clover. If you want to dine-in and don't like waiting, then I suggest dinner on Wednesday or Thursday. They're closed on Monday and Tuesday. After ordering, the service was great. They bring your food to your table. They were helpful, polite, and responsive. The dining room and restrooms were clean. You can help yourself to napkins, silverware, soda, and water refills. They're located at the dining room back wall near the kitchen doorway. This is a nice family restaurant with Italianesque decor. I was impressed at how flavorful the food was, so I recommend a visit. Carryout is the way to go if you want to get your food quickly.
This place is such a hidden gem I'm so glad we found it. I ordered the shrimp and crab in cream pasta and it is literally the best pasta I have ever had. The simplicity of the cream sauce let the shrimp and crab be the stars. Pasta was obviously cooked aldente. The chicken marsala was okay. I definitely had better but it was also still quite good. The calamari was not my favorite. It was a bit chewy and the breading was not very crisp. The pasta came with this buttered toast and that was absolutely delicious. The place itself definitely gives your grandma's house which was what I think they were going for. It was a bit crowded with how the tables were set up, but it made for a cozy feel. They cooked food up quickly. The only thing I didn't like about this place is that they let us sit but we had to get up to order and during that time some family stole our table even though I had left my menu sitting there. Which no big deal but it was annoying.
This is a yearly stop for the convention team and I - now coming up on our fourth year stopping here for our Saturday Italian meal. From downtown Baltimore this is a 30min drive - but really worth it. Located in a strip mall, the interior atmosphere looks like it's in its own old-world villa building. We have been coming here so many years that Momma and her son always recognize us. Really appreciate how they handle us when we are there, and the love comes through in the food. On this most recent trip I ordered Caprese and bruschetta for the table, and a chicken parmigiana (my usual). The Caprese is really perfect - fresh cracked pepper, fresh tomatoes and the basil leaves just bring it all together. The bruschetta was perfect as well - great amount of acidity of the tomatoes, with the toasted bread and seasoning. So so good. The chicken parm has always been great here - but this last time it was nearly perfect - Al dente pasta, thin and crispy chicken that melts just like the cheese that tops it. The gravy is always perfect - a nice bite to it and it all goes together perfectly. On this trip I ordered a hazelnut latte and an almond Nutella cheesecake - the portion of the cheesecake so big it almost looked like two slices. I love coming here - and will continue to do so as long as I come to the Baltimore area.
